Companion Care Assistant

Companion Care Assistants assist agency clients with tasks of daily living as outlined in a written care plan established by the agency Care Manager. These  services as  considered to be companion or sitter tasks  in nature, such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, errands, transportation, home safety, handling home emergencies and companionship.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1,000 hours of long-term care with geriatric or chronically ill persons. This translates to approximately 6 months of full time work or 12 months of part time work. Exceptions to this requirement are for recently licensed Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), or persons who will only be providing companionship and sitter services.
  • CNA license
  • Proof of current TB testing
  • CPR Certified
  • Must be physically able to perform the duties of this position
  • Pass competency assessment for understanding needs of populations served
  • Must have available reliable transportation; if transporting clients, must also have proof of a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Must possess excellent communication skills-the ability to read and write and follow instructions
  • Ability to pass competency assessment for understanding needs of population served, basic meal preparation, provision of transportation services, housekeeping, home safety, handling of emergencies and infection control.
  • Are mature, caring, punctual, and reliable
  • Pass a criminal background check (national and any required by state)
  • Provide verifiable professional and personal references
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand a client’s care plan and adequately implement it
  • Assist clients according to their care plan which may include: companionship, meal preparation and service, light housekeeping, transportation, shopping and cleaning.
  • Notify the Care Manager of client concerns, changes in care or client condition and client emergencies.
  • Notify the Care Manager and/or Staffing Coordinator of any safety concerns.
  • Follow company Infection Control practices; notify the office if in need of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or supplies.
  • Follow the ClearCare Telephony Instructions to clock in and clock out for all scheduled shifts and accurately update your task status for each client prior to clocking out and leaving the client’s home. For compensable worked hours that are not allocated to a specific client (such as training time), you must use and submit the Time Log and Time Certification for Non-Visit Time form for each period pay period.
  • Conform to the company dress code as specified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Report to work on-time and ready for the day.
  • Complete ongoing training as required by client care needs and/or changes in company policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
