Forum set for City Council Race

DAWSONVILLE, Ga.-  Candidates running for City Council seats will have an opportunity to answer questions and share viewpoints regarding the upcoming November 7 election.
The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce along with local media outlets Dawson County News, FetchYourNews.com and Smoke Signals will host a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 3. The event will be hosted at the Performing Arts Center at Dawson County High School, 1665 Perimeter Road, beginning at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The event is free to the public and anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
Four candidates have announced they are running for the two city council seats that are on the ballot in November. They are: Mark Wade French, Angie Hammond Smith (Incumbent), Mike Sosebee (Incumbent), and Steve Tolson.
“One of the main goals of our Chamber’s Advocacy Committee is to help our citizens and business owners stay informed on the local issues that directly impact them. We have partnered with our community media outlets to host this forum in support of reaching that goal,” Dawson County Chamber President Christie Haynes said. “This forum will is an opportunity for citizens and business owners to learn more about the candidates and their priorities before voters cast their ballot in the November election.”
Questions for the forum will be selected by the Chamber’s Advocacy Committee. Those interested in submitting a question should email info@dawson.org or call 706-265-6278.
The Municipal General Election will be held on November 7, 2017. Everyone will vote at the Dawsonville precinct, Dawson County Board of Elections Office located at 96 Academy Avenue. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance voting will begin October 16 through November 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Board of Elections office.
To request an absentee ballot you may visit, http://sos.ga.gov/admin/uploads/absentee_ballot_app_201431.pdf or call 706-344-3640.
The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, October 10. To register to vote or check your registration status, visit https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do or call the Board of Elections office at 706-344-3640.
Dawsonville City Council members are elected at-large. Of the four candidates who have qualified, the two with the most votes will be elected to serve on City Council. All registered voters in the City of Dawsonville who vote will vote for two candidates.
“While the Chamber does not support specific candidates or parties during an election, we absolutely encourage City residents to get out and vote. In a city of less than 3,000 residents, this is certainly an election where every vote counts,” Haynes said.
For those who are interested but cannot attend the forum in person, the Chamber will post the forum to their YouTube channel which can be accessed by visiting: https://www.youtube.com/dawsonchamber
For more information about voting or the election you may call the Board of Elections office at 706-344-3640 or the Chamber at 706-265-6278.
